Prior to his impending journey to the United Kingdom and Germany with Meghan Markle next month, Prince Harry made a surprise solo visit to Africa on Wednesday.

At the Vilankulo Airport, pictures of the 37-year-old Duke of Sussex were taken. The following day, People reported that Harry had visited the continent while serving as president of African Parks, a non-profit organization that oversees national parks all throughout the continent.

As they explore protected wildlife and natural regions, Harry has been “welcoming and co-hosting a group of US officials, conservationists, and benefactors,” according to a statement from his representative to the site.

After working with African Parks for a year, the royal assumed control of the position in 2017.

Harry discussed climate change in a speech he gave last month at the UN, where he also highlighted his love of Africa.

“Ever since I went to Africa for the first time when I was 13 years old, I’ve always found optimism there. In fact, it has been my lifeblood for the majority of my life,” he added in the July speech.

“It’s where I felt the closest to my [deceased] mother, [Princess Diana], and sought comfort after she passed away. It’s also where I realized I had married my soul mate.”

Archie, the now 3-year-old son of Harry and Markle, 41, made his first and only royal journey to Africa in September 2019.

They declared their intention to “step back” from their responsibilities as senior royal family members four months later.

They spent some time in Canada before relocating to California in March 2020.

The couple’s 1-year-old daughter Lilibet was welcomed after they quit all of their royal duties in February.

The four-person family traveled to the UK for the first time since Megxit in June to observe Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

In September, Harry and the “Suits” alum will go to Germany before returning to England.
