KARACHI – On Friday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Pakistan to show his support as the nation deals with a natural calamity brought on by climate change.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in advance that Mr. Guterres will meet with Pakistan’s top leaders and government representatives to discuss the country’s and the world’s reaction to this climate change-related calamity.

He will visit the areas hardest hit by the worst flooding in recent memory, where he will meet with displaced families and emergency personnel on the ground.

The 73-year-old will also be in charge of the UN’s humanitarian response activities in support of the government’s attempts to rescue and assist millions of affected people.

According to the Foreign Office, his visit will help promote awareness of the huge scope of this catastrophe, the lives lost, and the extensive destruction it has caused.

During his visit, he will also emphasize the value of ongoing international assistance for the flood-devastated nation during the repair and reconstruction phases as well as for enhancing resilience against upcoming climate shocks.
